About Lambeth Mind
Our aims and how we are run
Lambeth Mind is an independent local charity working for the well-being of people experiencing any kind of mental distress by providing information, advice and support and through campaigning for better services.
The majority of us involved in running and staffing Lambeth Mind have experience of using or receiving mental health services of various kinds.
We manage our affairs independently through our Management Committee which is elected annually from our membership. We currently employ a Co-ordinator, an Information & Admin Officer and sessional workshop facilitators. Otherwise Lambeth Mind depends on the support of its volunteer team.
Current projects
Information helpline
This service covers the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. We offer information on all kinds of issues of concern to people using mental health services or experiencing distress, their families, friends and mental health professionals. All calls to our helpline are strictly confidential.
We can send out literature to callers, including information factsheets that we produce on key subjects, as well as literature produced by national Mind.
Online & Printed Directory
The online directory on this website contains much of the information we use on our helpline.
We have produced a printed directory of resources available to people in Lambeth - contact us for your free copy.
Lambeth Mind News
This is a free, widely distributed and service user controlled mental health magazine. It provides a forum for publicising groups and events, and for people to publish articles, poetry, artwork, etc.
Survivors Poetry Workshops
These were held fortnightly on Saturdays but the group is currently taking a break while we apply for more funding. An anthology of the poetry produced is available – contact us for your free copy.
Alternatives in Mental Health
This project, supported by Lambeth Mind, aims to promote alternative and complementary therapies in mental health.
For more information visit the project website at www.mhalternatives.org.uk - includes descriptions of various therapies and a list of local practitioners who have been involved with the project.
